Destruction avoided but let’s not forget
The cold war is over but there’s still a threat
Developing nations with nuclear arms
It’s reason for panic and cause for alarm
(2x) The threat remains
Regional conflict, with global consequence
Nuclear winter, the earth has no defense
I see the cities burn, I see the smoke churn
The point of no return
(2x) The threat remains
Not free from danger yet
There’s clearly still a threat
Contenders with nuclear arms
With potential for global harm
Power addiction
Our leaders’ affliction
Expanding arms production
Will lead to our destruction
Destruction
Contamination into the sky
Billions will surely die
From global fallout
And worldwide famine and drought
Power addiction
Our leaders’ affliction
Sickening prediction
They’ll lead us to extinction
Extinction
Cold winter everywhere
Dust and smoke fill the air
Death slowly spreads
Extinction lies ahead
(Spoken)
Disarmament agreements between the United States and Soviet Union, the destruction of the Berlin Wall, the shredding of the Iron Curtain - these events marked the end of the Cold War but the reality is, the existence of nuclear weapons still threatens to destroy our planet.
A regional nuclear war could impact the entire population. Soot injected into the stratosphere and spread across the planet could block the rays of the sun, causing temperatures to plummet, killing off crops and animals and eventually, the human race. This is a nuclear winter.
Destruction avoided but let’s not forget
The cold war is over but there’s still a threat
Developing nations with nuclear arms
It’s reason for panic and cause for alarm
